Photo 14 Mar Losing is the worst, no question.  This kid knows, as he misses the last shot, the last chance seconds before the buzzer, to tie up the district finals.  As a senior its the last time he’ll wear his high school letters, maybe the last time he’ll play basketball for anything but pleasure.
But there is also a bittersweetness to winning, I’ve found.  In all definitions, I won. Miraculously in this cut-throat recessive world of journalism I landed a job without turning in an application.  In the whirlwind hurricane I call life I’ve found myself leaving my internship at The Lima News earlier than expected to start as a photographer/multimedia/reporter at The Ashland Times Gazette. While thrilled at the promise of a salary (gasp) and medical insurance (gasp) I find myself with mixed emotions of leaving.  Leaving the place I had just started to feel comfortable in, leaving the coworkers who made me laugh till I cried, the newsroom that gave me a chance when no one else even bothered to send a rejection letter, the community that embraced all of my northeastern charm.
As I sit here, 14 hours before I start work unable to sleep, I find myself editing through photos from the internship looking at how much I’ve learned and grown more than anyone, mainly myself, expected.
So here is to Ashland, and the continuations of the adventures in this thing we call life.  Loosing. Winning. Or somewhere inbetween.
